FAVORITE SPORT: ALL THE SPORTS!
Play provides a fun and engaging way for people of all ages to learn, grow and connect. In addition to experiencing the physical and mental benefits of being active, we learn how to support others, compete respectfully and be on a team – the benefits of which continue long after the play session has ended.

KYLE POST
NATIONAL ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Favorite Sport: FOOTBALL & BASEBALL
Play can be so powerful in a variety of ways. First, allowing kids the opportunity to be a kid. There is nothing more associated with being a kid than playing a game or sport. Second, it gets kids active. Having play in a child’s life leads to a healthier life. Third, playing sports can lead to character growth in ways that most things in life can’t teach. Teamwork, integrity, dedication, and many other character attributes are learned from time playing a sport. Finally, it’s just plain fun, and that is the most important thing when a kid plays.

Play is an amazing, beautiful, and powerful aspect to any child’s development. Kids aren’t just learning how to dribble a basketball, how to throw a football, or pass a soccer ball. They are learning awesome life lessons such as how to work with others, how to become a leader, how to make decisions under pressure, and much much more!

The opportunity to play is one of the most powerful things that a child can be introduced to. Play can give each child the ability to stay active, make friends, and learn the most valuable life lessons all while having fun! Kids don’t even realize they are building so much character – and that itself shows how powerful play is. Looking back, play has shaped me into who I am today!

Play is powerful because of the impact it has on players no matter the age. For kids, sports build confidence, teach teamwork, and so much more all while being in a fun environment! Every child should have access to sports, and Volo Kids is making that happen one program at a time. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the lessons I learned through participating in sports growing up!

SHAQ WILHOYT
BALTIMORE PROGRAM AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR
FAVORITE SPORT: SOCCER, BASKETBALL, & FOOTBALL
Play has taught me how to push through failure, how to show up even when I didn’t feel like it, and how to work with others toward something bigger than myself. It gave me confidence when I didn’t have much and a sense of purpose when things felt uncertain. The lessons I’ve learned on the field or court—resilience, patience, leadership—have shaped who I am far beyond the game.

VINCE CONN
BOSTON PROGRAM AND OUTREACH MANAGER
FAVORITE SPORT: BASKETBALL
The power of play is something that every child should be able to experience. It is a time of their life where they can try new sports, develop a healthy relationship with physical activity, and learn valuable life skills. The most rewarding experience I have had working with kids is watching a kid struggle with a drill or being very shy to participate and becoming more confident as the weeks go by. At that point, it is less about sports and something they can translate to life.

FAVORITE SPORT: DANCE & RUNNING
The power of play means access to sports, but even more, access to the valuable social and emotional skills we learn when we play. Sports emphasize the importance of teamwork, community, and so many other traits that contribute to a happy and productive society. I love being able to teach Volo Kids these lessons through dance and serving as a role model to so many young athletes.

Whether as a child or an adult, playing isn’t just about wins or losses — it’s about the people you meet, the memories you create, and the challenges you overcome. The ability to play is a privilege that everyone deserves — to feel your heart race, to smile without reason, and to be fully present in the moment.

NICKY TAMBERRINO
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
FAVORITE SPORT: RUNNING
Play is everything. It gives kids a sense of belonging, helping them stay connected, social, and active. It’s not just about having fun—it’s how they build confidence, learn to roll with the punches, and figure out that losing isn’t the end, it’s just part of leveling up. Play teaches them grit, teamwork, and how to solve problems on the fly, which comes in handy way beyond recess. That’s why play is powerful—because it shapes them, inside and out, while they’re just out there having a blast.
